Wolf Gold

What you are actually playing

Wolf Gold is a five-reel, three-row slot on twenty-five paylines with an American wilderness

theme. Released in 2017, it is the title that established Pragmatic Play's money-symbol respin

format, which the studio has since reused across a large part of its catalogue.

Two features sit on top of the base game: the Money Respin round and the free spins with

giant symbols.

The Money Respin round

Six or more moon money symbols trigger three respins. Every money symbol locks in place, and

the respin counter resets to three each time a new one lands. The round ends when the counter

runs out or the grid fills.

Fill all fifteen positions and the Mega jackpot is awarded. Partial fills award the Minor or

Major jackpots depending on how many money symbols are collected, plus the sum of their

values.

This is the mechanic that spread across the industry — Big Bass Bonanza's collector, Wild West

Gold's respins, Fire Strike and the rest are all descendants of it. The reason it works is the

same reason the Big Bass round works: everything is visible on the board while it happens.

The free spins

Five free spins are triggered by three scatters, and during the round reels two, three and

four are merged into a single giant symbol. It is a spectacle feature more than a value

feature — the round is short, and a giant blank is a common outcome.

Reading the numbers

Pragmatic Play publishes an RTP of 96.01% for Wolf Gold, and our database classifies it as

medium volatility.

That 96.01% deserves attention: across the 157 Pragmatic Play titles in our database the

studio's floor is exactly 96.00%, and Wolf Gold sits one hundredth of a point above it. The

portfolio average is 96.53%. In other words, this famous title is at the bottom of its own

studio's range, and about four tenths of a point below our catalogue median of 96.43%.

Medium volatility does mean the session behaves reasonably: regular small wins, a respin round

that arrives often enough to matter, no long stretches of nothing. You are trading a little

theoretical return for a smoother ride — which is a legitimate trade, as long as you know you

are making it.

How it compares

Against Big Bass Bonanza: same family of mechanics, same volatility class, but Big Bass

publishes 96.71% against Wolf Gold's 96.01%. On return alone, Big Bass is the better buy.

Against Wolf Gold's own sequels and the wider money-respin family, the original is the

cleanest implementation; later entries add multipliers and collection layers that push

variance up.

Against high-RTP alternatives: our catalogue holds 57 titles at 97% or above. If the respin

format is what you want, you are paying for it here.

What the demo is good for

The respin round is the thing to watch. Play until it triggers a few times and note how often

the grid gets close to a full fill versus stalling at seven or eight symbols. That gap is

where the jackpot expectation lives, and it is much wider than the feature's presentation

suggests.

Demo play uses virtual credits and cannot be withdrawn.

Who it suits

Players who want the classic respin format with a calm session profile and are not optimising

for the last half point of RTP. Anyone who is should check the

RTP database first — the same mechanic exists in titles with better

published returns.
